TECHNICAL EVOLUTION / ORIGINATOR

President & Founder
Phoenix Bearing Technology Inc.
Creator and originator of the industry-adopted 2-Year Ceramic Hybrid Robot Bearing Preventive Maintenance (PM) for Applied Materials ENDURA® wafer-transfer robots.
The original work was developed while supporting Philips Corporation’s metals thin films equipment engineering organization and focused on identifying and eliminating the dominant failure mechanisms governing thin-section robot hub bearings in vacuum environments.
At the time, robot-bearing PMs required frequent intrusive maintenance events that imposed extended tool downtime, contamination risk, and repeated requalification cycles.
The solution replaced the OEM six-month PM interval with a validated two-year service interval by addressing the underlying life-limiting mechanisms rather than treating symptoms.
The work was formally documented through engineering analyses and validation reports and presented at the Applied Materials ENDURA® Worldwide Meeting (2000).
The resulting method was subsequently adopted across multiple fabs and became a globally recognized best-known method for wafer-fab robot bearing maintenance.
Building on this foundation, Phoenix Bearing Technology is now advancing a next-generation lifecycle reliability architecture that transitions robot hub bearings from periodic preventive maintenance to maintenance-obsolescent operation.
This work is informed by—but technically distinct from—the original 2-Year program and is positioned for confidential partner evaluation under controlled validation.
