Adolfo H. Rivera originated the 2-Year Ceramic Hybrid Robot Bearing PM while serving as the Philips equipment-engineering customer responsible for reliability and service on Applied Materials ENDURA® systems at Philips Corporation on IBM’s East Fishkill site in the Hudson Valley.
The OEM 6-month ENDURA® wafer-transfer robot bearing PM consumed approximately 36 hours of tool availability per PM event on each of Philips’ 12 ENDURA® systems.
As the customer responsible for converting those capital assets into wafer production, every hour of scheduled robot downtime mattered.
That recurring capacity burden drove Rivera’s development of an in-house solution: the 2-Year Ceramic Hybrid Robot Bearing PM.
Phase 1 was the first architectural shift — developed, field-proven, and adopted by Philips; introduced in 2000; and later established as an industry BKM.
The 2-Year PM shifted the OEM BKM lifecycle boundary from 6 months to 2 years.
More than 20 years later, Rivera completed Phase 2: the 10-Year Robot Bearing Lifecycle Reliability Architecture — extending the architectural progression from periodic preventive maintenance toward the full service life of the bearing.
Across Applied Materials ENDURA®, CENTURA®, and PRODUCER® platforms, the work addresses the wafer-transfer robot as the gatekeeper subsystem governing the conversion of installed tool capacity into wafer output.
Phase 1 extended the interval.
Phase 2 completes the architectural arc at 10 years.
